About Jhonatan Serna

The Short Version

I studied physics. I worked in financial services as an IT management consultant, product owner, and business analyst. I spent years founding and administering software enterprises in Sweden and Estonia.

Today, my primary mission is leading the Center for Sentience, where we mathematically model and build simulation blueprints of positive valence and information routing in digital and biological minds.

This archive is a personal log. I write to think clearly, to make sense of what I learn, and to leave something behind. I have less than 100 years on this planet, probably much less, and I want to spend that time exploring the deepest questions of existence, mind, and reality.

What I Think About

My interests don't fit neatly into standard academic or corporate boxes. These notes and essays trace the intersections between:

• Valence & AI Welfare: How does subjective experience (pleasure, pain, well-being) manifest computationally in network topologies?
• Global Workspace Theory & IIT: Spatially-constrained multi-layer network modeling to understand information broadcasting and phenomenal integration.
• Personal Contemplation: Non-reactive cognitive algorithms (equanimity), Jhana meditation mechanics, and dealing with the constraints of comfort.
• Physics: The geometric structure of physical and representational state spaces.

Why "Strugen"?

It is a professional and personal moniker I have used for over a decade. It does not carry a specific translation; it is simply my digital handle. You can find me as strugen or strugen_eth across various networks.

I also maintain Digital Psychedelics, which focuses specifically on the physical substrates of time, consciousness, and extreme somatic states. This blog (strugen.com) is broader, more personal, and covers general reflections.
